VENEERS

Do you want to cover up stains or straighten your teeth?

Dental veneers are a popular alternative to teeth whitening and orthodonticsVeneers are custom, wafer-thin restorations that are bonded over your front teeth to improve your their shape, colour, size and alignment. They can be made from either porcelain or a resin composite. Rather than a crown that covers the entire tooth, veneers only mask the part that’s visible when you smile which means that multiple veneers side by side can make your smile look whiter, fuller, straighter and more symmetrical. At Rubery Dental Surgery we work closely with you to understand your aesthetic goals and design the smile you have always wanted.

Who can benefit from dental veneers?

Dental veneers are a versatile treatment that can correct a variety of aesthetic issues, as well as minor orthodontic issues. We may recommend veneers to:

  • straighten the appearance of crooked teeth

  • change the size or shape of teeth

  • close small or uneven gaps between teeth

  • cover up tooth stains and discolouration

  • cover worn-down, chipped or broken teeth

During your initial consultation, our dentists will take the time to listen to your concerns and will undertake a comprehensive evaluation of your mouth. There is a lot of care and precision that goes into getting the shape, colour and size of your veneers perfect so that it matches and compliments your remaining teeth and facial structure. This procedure can usually be completed in just 2 visits.

Why choose dental veneers over other treatments?

Here are two common situations where veneers may be preferred over other cosmetic dental treatments:

Covering up stains – dental veneers vs teeth whitening

Teeth whitening can be effective for covering up stains from food, drink and tobacco, but it cannot remove other types of discolouration, such as those caused by an injury, health condition or side-effects of medication. By contrast, dental veneers cover up all types of stains or discolouration. They can also correct other aesthetic concerns such as chipped or misshapen teeth.

Straightening smiles – dental veneers vs orthodontic braces

Orthodontic braces may be recommended if you have a more severe alignment issue with your teeth or jaws. These treatments can take between 6 months and 2 years to complete. If your teeth are only slightly crooked or misaligned, or you want to cover up small gaps, dental veneers can offer a more convenient solution in just a two visits. See before and afters of past treatments of veneers and invisalign treatments below:

COMPOSITE BONDING

Dental bonding is the application of a tooth-coloured composite resin on the teeth. The composite resin is moulded and smoothed to match the surrounding teeth, improving the appearance of your smile. Composite resins are ideal for filling chips, fractures or gaps between teeth, or for fixing discolouration. A composite resin is attached to a tooth and shaped to restore its original appearance. The colour of the resin is matched to your teeth, so it will appear as though it is a natural part of the tooth. Composite bonding can usually be carried out in just one visit to the dentist, therefore it is a fast and effective way to fix minor cosmetic issues. Bonding is also a non-invasive procedure, for composite bonding to be applied, the surface of the tooth only has to be roughened to help the resin to bond, meaning the structure of the tooth remains intact. See our before and after case below:

Why Get Composite Bonding?
Tooth bonding is one of the easiest and most affordable cosmetic dental procedures that aims to correct minor defects such as:

  • Enhancing the shape and colour of the tooth

  • Extending the length of the tooth

  • Repairing decayed, cracked, chipped or stained teeth

  • Eliminating gaps between teeth

  • More tooth conservative than other treatments

  • Bonding can be an alternative to veneers

  • Can be repaired or replaced easier than veneers

  • Cost is less than veneers

TEETH WHITENING

Unlock a Brighter and Whiter Smile at Rubery Dental Surgery we offer safe and effective teeth whitening solutions. If you are looking at ways to brighten or enhance your smile, perhaps for a wedding or a special event or even simply to boost your smile confidence, then professional whitening treatments are the best way to achieve a brighter, whiter smile. See our whitening case example photograph.

Advantages of safely whitening your smile

Professional whitening treatments are designed to:

  • Safely lift deep-set tooth stains caused by food & beverages such as tea, coffee, red wine, or caused by smoking

  • Naturally whiten healthy enamel

  • Jump-start your smile makeover before other treatment by providing a whiter baseline for future cosmetic dentistry – this is because crowns and tooth-coloured fillings cannot be whitened

Dentists have the skills and training necessary to assess the status of your teeth as your dental history will determine the treatment that is medically safe to administer. Discoloured teeth are not always caused by coffee and red-wine, sometimes antibiotics you took as a child are the cause of your teeth discolouration.

Is whitening treatment right for you?

The first step is to determine the suitability of your teeth to receive whitening treatment. We will do a comprehensive assessment of your teeth and then step you through the options depending on what you are hoping to achieve. We strongly recommend having a professional dental clean before any whitening treatments to maximise whitening results.

Take-home Whitening

We provide At-Home Whitening, so you can whiten your teeth in the comfort of your own home, we provide take-home teeth whitening kits to help you achieve results which are as long-lasting and effective. If you decide to proceed with take-home whitening, we’ll custom-create trays that will fit comfortably and snugly on your teeth. You’ll receive them along with a whitening gel that is put into the tray, then worn every day for a set period. It’s best to continue this process for a period of weeks until the desired results have been achieved.

Teeth whitening can cover up most types of teeth stains and discolouration
These include:
  • stains from food and drink, such as coffee, tea and red wine

  • stains from tobacco

  • discolouration from poor oral hygiene

  • discolouration from natural ageing

Not everyone is suitable for teeth whitening. Your initial consultation is a chance for our dentists to examine your teeth and gums and check your dental history to look for anything that needs to be addressed. It's important that your teeth and gums are healthy before a cosmetic treatment can begin, as oral health problems can affect the success of the treatment. If we notice signs of a problem such as tooth decay or gum disease, this will need to be treated as a priority. If there may be an underlying problem causing your teeth to darken, we will also try to identify and address this.
