Comprehensive Dental Check-up and Clean

At Rubery Dental Surgery we strongly believe that having a regular comprehensive examination and clean is the first step to achieving optimal oral hygiene and keeping your smile looking great.

We help people achieve optimal oral health – and that’s something to smile about!

We provide a wide range of general dentistry services ranging from general check-ups and cleaning, through to tooth fillings, advice and solutions for teeth grinding, or help in finding the right dentures for you. Your oral health is very much the same. Comprehensive oral examinations and cleaning can identify and resolve potential problems (e.g. plaque, tartar and stains) well before they develop into serious issues for your oral health and overall wellbeing, and keeps your pearly whites shining, smiling and working for you longer. A routine check-up involves an examination of your teeth, gums and mouth, in addition x-rays may also be required. This is a thorough procedure which will help prevent minor problems from becoming big problems and to uncover any present conditions. Oral cancer screening is part of the oral health assessment.

Your oral health is significantly connected to your overall health: Healthy mouth equals a Healthy body.

Scientific evidence suggests that poor oral health is significantly associated with serious, major chronic diseases. During your check-up, we will be undertaking a comprehensive examination for signs of diseases including oral cancer screening. Signs of these potentially devastating conditions first appear in your mouth and regular checks can lead to early detection.

Hygienist Appointments for Gum Disease Treatment

Are your gums inflamed, sore or bleed when you brush?

Gum disease is when bacteria infects the gums and surrounding tissue causing inflammation. The early symptoms of gum disease, also known as gingivitis, include:

  • Gums change colour from pale pink to deep red

  • The gum margin is rounded and swollen, instead of being thin like a knifes edge

  • Gums bleed every time you try to brush or floss

  • Gums feel tender to the touch

  • Bad breath

If these symptoms are left untreated, this gum disease can progress into more advanced forms of gum disease. The advanced stages of gum disease, known as periodontitis, affect the supporting structures of the tooth. This means the disease can destroy the periodontal ligaments that are responsible for keeping your teeth attached to the gum. This creates periodontal or gingival pockets that trap plaque and tartar. The bone that holds the tooth in place will also gradually be destroyed, usually resulting in tooth loss.

At Rubery Dental Surgery, we provide a number of services to ensure the best outcome for your gums and overall oral health. This includes a commitment to practising and encouraging all forms of preventative dentistry to ensure our patients avoid the risk of developing gum disease. A regular check-up and clean will reduce the risk of bacterial infection and inflammation. If you have risk factors that increase your chance of developing periodontitis, such as having dry mouth, taking certain medications or smoking, you may need professional cleaning more often. Having your teeth cleaned by the professionals is recommended with your regular check-up usually every 6 months. Dental cleaning is great for preventing oral health problems, plus it freshens your breath and brightens your smile.

White Fillings and Removal of Metal Fillings

Whether your tooth has experienced decay or has been worn down or eroded, we use the the latest modern and safe materials to re-build and re-strengthen your teeth. Many people do not want metal fillings that show when they laugh or smile because they are more conscious about the way they look.  If you have existing 'silver' fillings, we can replace them with white fillings. Many people today are choosing to have them removed and replaced with a white filling to improve the appearance of their smiles. See our case below of metal fillings replaced with white composite fillings.

White fillings can repair a decayed or damaged tooth with a seamless finish. One of the most common dental procedures, white fillings are suitable for patients of all ages, including children. We use white composite fillings to fill in cavities and small cracks in teeth, or to restore a chipped or worn-down tooth. Unlike old metal amalgam fillings that are very obvious in the mouth, white fillings are made from a dental resin composite that we can match to your original tooth shade. This offers a more discreet and natural-looking finish.

Crowns and Bridges

Crowns fit over your remaining tooth structure to provide strength and protection to teeth that have been weakened by a large fracture or cavity, recent root canal, excessive wear or other structural damage that compromises the integrity of the tooth. Not only do they provide structural support to restore function, but crowns can also accentuate and improve the appearance of your smile. All of our dental crowns are custom designed to ensure they blend and colour match seamlessly with your existing teeth.

A dental bridge could be an option to replace missing teeth if you still have some natural teeth remaining for support. Unlike dentures a bridge is bonded or cemented into place, placing a bridge may be preferred over removable dentures. Benefits of a dental bridge include:

  • Restoring the appearance, strength and function of your smile

  • Preventing neighbouring teeth from shifting into the gap and becoming crooked

  • Distributing chewing forces more evenly to prevent jaw joint dysfunction

  • Helping to support your facial structure

Dentures
Restore your confidence to smile, eat and speak with expertly-designed dentures from Rubery Dental Surgery. Patients who have lost natural teeth can easily restore their confidence to smile, eat and speak with custom made partial or full dentures that are guaranteed to fit well. At your initial consultation, we listen to your concerns about your teeth and will subsequently discuss your options with you in order to achieve a long-lasting and reliable solution that is individually tailored to you. These days, dentures are more natural looking and more comfortable than ever. Gone are the days of unsightly, loose or ill-fitting dentures. Some patients with missing teeth may notice that their facial structure has changed and that they have begun to appear older – and a denture may be the best solution to restore their facial shape and structure, as well as restore full function of their mouth for chewing, talking and even smiling! This can have immense positive effects on ones quality of life.

Mouthguards

COULD YOU BENEFIT FROM A CUSTOM MOUTH GUARD?

If you grind or clench your teeth at night (a condition called bruxism), we may recommend a custom fitting dental night guard. This helps to protect teeth from wear and relieves the strain on jaw joints, preventing problems such as temporomandibular joint (TMJ) dysfunction. This appliance can be worn at night to prevent your teeth from touching. It can help to ease symptoms such as jaw pain and headaches, and over time it could even help you to stop grinding or clenching altogether.
